Inspired by the movie Toy Story and the mountains of toys throughout the house, I wondered, “What does the world look like from a toy’s perspective?” I decided that a toy would perceive the world as we do with seemingly limitless depth of field yet it might not be perfectly sharp. A borrowed pinhole camera afforded exactly what I was looking for. The wide-angle camera was placed in a position amongst the toys. The extremely long exposures occasionally posed a challenge. Once during a three-hour exposure, my wife, Lisbeth, cleaned up the boys’ room and shoved the basket containing the camera under a bed.
